MIRACLE at its Highest

A man fell from 47 storeys Manhattan skyscraper and survives. Mr Alcides Moreno, 37 year-old, an Ecuadorean Immigrant, while cleaning window 190m high fell on Dec 7 from his scaffolding, the fall killed his brother Mr Edgar Moreno instantly.

At New York-Presbyterian Hospital/ Weill Cornell Medical Center, Mr Moreno started to move his limb and is able to breath on his own, on Christmas Day, he spoke for the first time. "Thank God for the miracle that we had," his wife Rosario Moreno said. "He keeps telling me that it just wasn't his time."

Dr Herbert Pardes, the hospital president said during the time when Mr Moreno was wheeled in to the hospital, both his legs and right arm and wrist were broken in several places. he has severe injuries on his chest, abdomen and spinal column, and his brain was bleeding. "If you are a believer in miracles, this would be one," said the hospital chief of surgery, Dr Philiop Barie.

Science may never be able to explain how Mr Moreno survive from such a fall.

Chief McKavanagh, who was helping to oversee the rescue, said it
appeared that lightweight material on the platform may have absorbed some of the blow for Alcides Moreno.

It may have acted as a sort of shock absorber, he said. "If they both rode it down, which is quite possible, God bless them if they had the wherewithal to continue to hold on," Chief McKavanagh said. "That is incredible."

"It is a horrible story," he continued, adding that if Mr. Moreno lives,
"that will be a miracle." "I do not like to use that word so often," he said, "but this is."
